Dothan (but the Bible one, not the Alanama one)
In Genesis 37:17 Joseph (he with the coat of many colors) goes to find his brothers who are tending their sheep near "Dothan." Of all the names in the Bible, I wonder why did someone in E.A. (Early Alabama) pick an obscure reference from Genesis to name their town Dothan.
Stairway to Heaven
Wonder if the boys from Led Zeppelin were reading about Jacob's dream in Genesis 28:12 "...a dream in which he saw a stairway...to heaven."
Sodom
From Genesis Chapter 19 (especially 19:5) - evidently homosexuality was crazy rampant in the town of Sodom, which is where the word "sodomy" comes from
Well Golly....
The name Gomer came from Genesis 10:2. This Gomer (not the one from Mayberry) is one of Japheth's boys.
Nimrod
From Genesis 10:8 - "Cush was the father of Nimrod, who grew to be a mighty warrior on the earth."
Nimrod....
"As old as Methusaleh..."
From Genesis 5:27 "As old as Methusaleh..." While not technically a verse in the Bible, this saying refers to the oldest guy ever known.
And so I count it as a SITBIDKWITB.
"Brother's Keeper?"
Am I my "brother's keeper?" Found in the Bible in Genesis 4:9
Tigris and Euphrates
These rivers (in Iraq) are first named in the Bible in Genesis 2:14
"Raising Cain"
This phrase is all about Cain, son of Adam and Eve, the first murderer in the Bible. (and I guess the first of all time.)
